Enhancing Youth Engagement in Human Rights, Justice and Electoral Participation

DRDO–Somalia implemented the Low-Value Grant “Enhancing Youth Engagement in Human Rights, Justice and Electoral Issues”, funded by UNDP-Somalia, to strengthen young people’s awareness, participation, and capacity in human rights, justice, and electoral processes.
The initiative reflected DRDO’s broader commitment to working with government institutions, communities, and traditional leaders to promote inclusive and accountable governance, access to justice, respect for human rights, and peaceful and cohesive communities.
Mobilized young people to understand and advocate for their human rights and civic responsibilities.
Electoral Participation
Promoted youth awareness and meaningful participation in electoral processes and democratic decision-making.
Access to Justice
Increased awareness of justice mechanisms and the rights of accused and imprisoned persons.
Capacity Building
Conducted training and learning activities to strengthen youth knowledge and leadership.
Public Dialogue
Organized panel discussions and stakeholder dialogues on governance and rights issues.
Key Focus Areas and Activities
Young women and men are better equipped to participate in civic, human rights, justice, and electoral processes.
Somali communities benefit from more inclusive, equitable, and accountable governance, improved access to justice, and greater respect for human rights.
Youth contribute more effectively to peace building, conflict management, and democratic decision-making.
